The power of the woman is everywhere in March.
We’ve got Women’s History Month, International Women’s Day, and of course Mother’s Day. The latter being the 27th March for anyone who needs reminding and you can thank us later for the Genuis* gift ideas we’ve popped in here. So yes, our diaries are full this month but we’re dedicating time to reconnect with our female icons.
Coco Chanel said that “A girl should be two things: Who and what she wants.”, so with that mantra, we’re stepping into a month-long celebration of women with our own unique twist. Caorunn will as you would expect, be a central part of those raised glass moments (we’ll come back to that…) but here are some of the ways we’re going to be celebrating International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day in meaningful and memorable ways this March.
Since International Women’s Day falls on a Tuesday, we’re going to liven the dullest day of the week up by introducing a Film Club (because who does anything good on a Tuesday night anyway…); a monthly rotation of our friend’s living rooms in celebration of our greatest feminist films and female film icons. We’ll be raising our Caorunn & Tonics over the coming months to Erin Brokovich, Nine to Five, Clueless, Alien, Thelma & Louise, The Piano, Little Women, Desperately Seeking Susan and Suffragette among many others. Why not try some of our favourite cocktails as you watch?
There’s a whole spectrum of female artists who lift us a little higher, make us walk a bit taller and feel proud to be a woman with their music and words. Pick, play and socialise that Spotify list. Madonna, Joni Mitchell, Anna Calvi, Dua Lipa, Roisin Murphy, Kate Bush, Little Simz, Taylor Swift and the absolute queen of country, Dolly Parton will all be featuring on our playlists among many others.
In our view, it’s up to ‘the big girls to take care of the little girls’ and do all we can to inspire and empower the next generation of women. Celebrate International Women’s Day by writing a letter to your younger self and share it with younger women in your life. Be authentic, write from the heart and share the golden nuggets of advice and wisdom you’ve picked up from your journey and experience of life. Here’s one for starters – tilt your glass sideways when you’re adding the tonic to your gin. It avoids a situation of over-fizz and subsequent flatness (if anyone has any tips on how to avoid this in life itself, call us…)
Celebrate Mother’s Day by taking a daytrip with your mum. Pack a picnic and take a trip down memory lane together or, if you’re not too far away from the beating heart of Caorunn’s home in the highlands, come visit our Visitors Centre in quite spectacular surroundings. Our local gin geniuses will show your mum the world’s only copper berry chamber, share some secrets and to finish, raise a toast to you both at the end of your Caorunn Gin Distillery tour.
It’s unfortunate that Mother’s Day is just that one day –so why not continue to share the love for at least another month by giving the gift of ‘Friday 5pm’ or ‘Caorunn o’ Clock’ as we like to call it. Package four of our dinky little 5cl bottles up individually with some tonic and nibbles. Friday 5pm, all wrapped up (you may however wish to extend cocktail hour with something a little larger…)
Isn’t it wildly frustrating to have wonderful cocktail suggestions blown nonchalantly in your direction when we all know that the only people who have a professional bar tender style of collection of mixers and accoutrements are in fact…professional bar tenders. Or your mum this year if you’re quick to the start line. In addition to your small (or indeed large) gift of Carounn, why not give a Mother’s Day gift with a difference - a beautifully packaged box of tonic, garnishes and a few cocktail game changing syrups and mixers.
